 Making fun of people.....
Author: Sara
Date:   2002-08-02 01:43

I am sorry to have to say this, but it seams that some people have nothing better to do then make fun of others. It is horrible that some of these people can not do something like practice instead of making fun of others. Remember the "Golden Rule"!

I thank all the great people that have helped me and so many others here!

Thank You,
Sara

I'm not sure about "making fun", but I do see more direct complaints to people than normal. To be frank I'm sick of it myself.

I also thank everyone who's helped me on this board before!
David

Being an artist is tough, but even in our musical troubles (or our egos), we must remember that we all put our pants on one leg at a time. Everyone deserves basic human respect. Although the clarinet is a big part of my life, it's not my life. There is substance and feelings. There is religion and friends. You get the idea. Getting in touch with these parts of our lives should all make us more sensitive, as clarinetists, sure, but more importantly, as human beings.

Not sure what all this means, but we could sure do with a psychiatry forum up there with the Klezmerites and leave the Clarinet Bulletin Board for those of us who consult it to keep up with our chosen instrument and the world of music. With psychological pap like this, coming here is increasingly becoming a waste of time. The Golden rule is not doing unto others what you wouldn't want done to yourself, and the writer of this self-indulgent message would have done well to reflect on that before inflicting her grousing on the rest of us. It adds nothing either to music or the art of the clarinet, and doesn't belong here. Testily, I'm off to practice.

I am simply trying to ask people to stop the personal attacks! We do not want to turn the younger people (or beginners) against this site or the clarinet.

Beejay:
I am sorry if I offended you.

Thank You

Sara,
let me run the BBoard. I contact those that abuse the board, and keep them off if ncessary. It's not something you really need to worry about.

If you're referring to some postings "attacking" me personally - definately don't worry. It comes with the territory.

Give the girl a break. She's only expressing her opinion (we all have one) that this board should be fair and safe for everybody to use without the fear of being criticised or attacked. Alot of it seems to be going on.

That may be true, Auyssie Nick, but we really don't need whole threads about it - there's already enough within the "normal" threads.

However - criticising is fair. That's how we learn. Attacking is not.

If Sarah was riding to the defense of Mark, she should have said so directly and would have been better understood. I apologize for any misunderstanding. I'd say Mark can look after himself, and in any case, he knows we all love his benevolent dictatorship. I cannot think of a more friendly place on the Internet, but I do think that broadly we ought to stick to music.

If you do not like what i am saying, i am sorry. It just kills me to see young people get turned away because of what people have said. I recommend this board to many of my students, and i have been asked about the comments that are made.

Mark,
I did not mean to step on your toes. SORRY!

Hmmm, Sara, I really don't think many of the young folk here are unduly criticsized or "attacked". Indeed, I find most of the people who "act up" are a lot older than people would think.

If they're thinking that being told to do some study on their own first or if someone disagrees with them is being "attacked", then they're under a false assumption about what that word means.

This BBoard isn't all "fluffy" and "politically correct" every day - we have our squabbles, just like any family, and once in a very great while someone gets a personal message from me or gets kicked out for a bit (by me - it's my responsibility), but the messages are just a little push in a particular direction and all the "prodigal children" that get kicked off are welcomed back after a while.

I don't really know how to respond in this part with out getting someone mad but I feel like responding anyhow. I do agree with Sara, I think that there is a lot of disrespect in this board twards the younger crowd. But it really doesn't matter. The younger crowd discriminates against the older crowd. Usually becuase they don't have a big name or are hobbiest. But you know what? So what. This a message board, and shouldn't be that big of a deal to anyone.
