good luck.

No. That would cause severe damage. If you do fit a turbo stick with the standard or even lower compression pistons (forged would be good)

ok, he was writing in Chinese simplified font. I actually come from Taiwan, but we use the traditional font. Finally, I realize what he was asking.
What he meant was:
"Is the second joint very useful? What on earth does it work?"
My guess is that he meant the lower joint of the clarinet...

I'll give you $400 for it NOW, no questions asked. But you have to pay the shipping.
Is it really red? I've only seen them in green without benefit of 3D glasses.
Yeah, my Mom is the same when it comes to feeding the dog at the table. Try using your fingers instead of chop sticks.

i have to agree with him. a black clarinet is much better to play a night then a pink one. you can get one to go or play it there.
best of luck

Wang--do you mean the barrel joint (as second joint to the mouthpiece?)
If so, different barrels alter the accoustical response, tone quality and, in some cases, the tuning characteristics of your clarinet. Most often, barrel changes are made for allowing your clarinet to tune higher or lower, or to "darken" the tone quality. Shorter barrels will play higher, longer barrels will play lower. The average barrel length for a Bb clarinet is 66mm--for an A clarinet, 65mm. Hope this helps.

Let's be a little more understanding and tolerant of this poor guy...Hey he didn't ask to be mocked- he only wanted some advice.Ok, I'll admit it-I'm probably making a few people mad by writing this but I think that we should be a little more tolerant of the added diversity on this board. Maybe someone will serioulsy consider what I'm saying.
Sorry but I just can't stand to see someone being picked on.........

I think Mark and Bea both bring up a good point. But also, it would help if his question was more coherent and understandable. I know that something was probably lost through the "culture" gap, but I can't quite make out what.

I'm sure Wang has a great sense of humor. If not he wouldn't be on this board.
You guys and gals are a hoot.
If you can't play well at least you can smile at every one who can.
I'm smiling all the time.

Thank you Beau. I quite agree.
So many rude reponses to a guy who is doing his best with a language he is struggling with. There is a time and place for the humour, and it is not here where it serves only to confuse communication more and easily come across as nothing less than mockery. Imagined the tables turned.
I hope some of those mockers can make ammends by going to the trouble of finding somebody fluent in clarinet matters, a Chinese language, and English.
I'm disgusted at the Western arrogance! It is entirely possible that Zhaoyuan Wang is fluent in MANY other languages.

I play the clarinet, and I am fluent in Chinese and English.
I tried to help him out. I think that some of the responses were uncalled for.

I agree, especially after you noticed that it was a font thing, not "junk characters". I only have Japanese (shift-JIS) and "big 5" characters turned on for oriental languages (for reasons other than the BBoard), so I didn't know what they were, either.

Chinese pride.. The chinese language is a beautiful one and I am shocked by the rude comments made by people just because people lack the software to read it. Maybe someday everything will be written in Chinese and others will have to learn the language. China does have have the largest population in the world...

Interesting the poster responded a 2nd time in correctly spelled english on what is clearly an "all" english BB to begin with. Then they chose not to translate/clarify their original post (if it's a legitimate language at all) so some of us arrogant westeners might have a lucid discussion and/or provide musical help. Then to further muddy the waters posted a 2nd time with "2" more questions, one of which asking "themselves" if they know Chinese and the other asking an english speaking/posting BB if we speak Chinese? C'mon folks, the tail is wagging the dog here. <;-

Wait a minute. The Chinese ideograms look like gibberish when displayed by any computer not set up to display them properly - and even then there's more than one font set for them. Very few people understood that - so take a calm, relaxing walk. Most people did not mean to denigrate the author - they thought that nothing was being communicated.
English is currently the "lingua fraca" of the world - it can be and often is used to start another conversation in a native tongue.

Ken,
If you use IE, try "View-Encoding-Chinese Simplified (HZ)". You may not be able to understand the questions, but you will be able to read it.

Now I'm really frustrated. I think this might be what Wang translated into English. I taught myself to speak/read/write a little Japanese (2nd grade level). From what I can recognize from the Kanji this is definitely Chinese. A few of these characters are universal between cultures/languages but I can't read or understand it unless it contains Japanese Hiragana and Katakana to form sentence structure. <:-(

What? That should've been translated Kanji from the IE setting....sorry.
[you put too much in the "Subject" line] and it overflowed the setting in the DB.

Your response isn't the kindest of the bunch either. In fact, it sounds very rude.

This board is about the clarinet. And I think that everyone should be able to have their input/question taken seriously. Even if the English used is not the "best" most people will be able to understand what you are saying. Discussing who is arrogant does not really belong here. There are plenty of other places to talk about that.

Lighten up, folks.
I would definitely not count any of the "rude" responses as offensive, or intended to be so.
Being offended on a stranger's behalf is a touch presumptuous. If anyone is ever offended by any remark of mine, I'll apologise to him or her unreservedly, but I'll not do so to soothe anyone else's ruffled feathers.
What the comments were was "taking the piss", which is quite acceptable and friendly.

Hmmmm ... that's not a phrase I'd ever heard before, and not one I'd use with company here in the USA. But I'll have to accept that it's perfectly proper to use that phrase in any sort of company in the UK.

Well thanks David!
Aussies have colourful vernacular to be sure, but I'm not sure the average Aussie would say ...TTP...to his or her favourite auntie, to most others - yes.
And don't forget a lot of our colloquialisms come from the old dart anyway - we have you poms to blame for a lot....heh,heh.....

In New Zealand the term is heard, but mainly in unrefined, macho-centered, male dominated, social subcultures such as those associated with rugby, and beer swilling. So I very rarely hear it. I presume Australia is much the same.

Yes Gordon - Australia IS much the same as NZ with respect to football and beer swilling - and pretty much the same as the
UK also, I suspect!!
