 I need your help

I'm looking for BAND literature that features clarinets. We have two all-state players, so that opens up more options. Like a double concerto or something? I'm open to ideas.

If you want something fun and light, try "Clarinet Candy" by Leroy Anderson. Not the nastiest thing every written, but it'll keep the section busy.

There is a Double Concerto by Burnet Tuthill: "Rondo Concertante
for Two Colo Clarinets and Band. Publisher is Summy-Birchard Company, Evanston, Illinois.

Also, I found a "Scherzetto" by Rabaud, edited by Waln. The publisher's name is shortened to read "Sym". I've no idea who that is. The title and composer pique my interest, but you may have a hard time finding it. You might try Eble's in Iowa City.

Good luck!

E.T.

Hey John, what school are you talking about? I goto a school that has two all-state clarinet players as well. Just wondering if it is a coincidence.

There's a worthy concert band transcription of the "Il Convegno" by Ponchielli still in print. I believe it was transcribed/edited by Matthew Ludwig and Fred Ormand...don't recall the publisher. Very challenging stuff. v/r

Our Tulsa Community Band featuring Dwight Dailey and Bill Viseur [clarinet duo] will perform Mendelssohn's [dont have my bass cl part here now!] Concertpiece No. 2 [??], and other works, next Wed. PM at Tulsa Univ. Its fine music, needs to be lightly scored/played so as to not over-power the soloists, their final cadenza in Part 3 Allegretto Grazioso will keep any duo alert!! If my recall is in error [others, Help!] I'll re-post. Great! Don

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but my wind ensemble played Ron Nelson's "Rocky Point Holiday". That song is crazy ! It has an amazing clarinet part that will keep EVERYONE busy ! :)

I'm an all-state student in my highschool band too! I suggest you get in touch with these students and find out what kind of literature they are dying to play that they haven't performed before. I really wish my band director would do this. This should really thrill your students. Chances are that if they enjoy the piece so will the rest of the band. When I was at Interlochen Arts Camp I heard the highschool synphonic band play Tichelli's Blue Shades. It was the first time I had witnessed this piece being performed. I was completely enraptured and ever since have wanted to play it. I have never had the oppurtunity to perform it let alone take a look at the music. I suggest Blue Shades. I hope your students enjoy whatever piece you pick and I hope the coming school year is fruitfull!
