 Cracked barrel
Author: Martin
Date:   2002-07-24 02:15

I have a tiny crack inside the lower end of my 10G barrel. It is in the area that comes in contact with the with the cork of the upper joint. Should the barrel be repaired or replaced? Does anyone know if the barrels sold by Gigliotti, Inc. would be a natural match for a Selmer 10G barrel?
Thanks in advance,
Martin Shapiro

The Barrel is surprisingly important for your tone and tuning.

If this barrel makes a nice sound for you, have it repaired.
The ring should be refitted and the top tenon cork sized.

The 10G is very close in design to the R13, so you could shuffle through a stack of Buffet Moening or Chadash tapers until you find a good match.

I prefer the stuff made by the actual seller, rather than items made to specifications.

The Muncy barrels are sleepers; little known and quite good.

Repair of your barrel should be less than a replacement.
