What is the hardest clarinet solo in orchestra? My teacher and I think it's Pines of Rome, 3rd movement.

It depends in what context it may be hard. Pines of Rome is definately a test of endurence, breathing, musicality and tone, but GBK is right in that they are all difficult in their own way. Compare Pines to something like Daphnis and Chloe, which is a real test of technique, and then of course there's the Beethoven solos which many people dread playing because these solos demand such precision. Anyway, I could be speaking complete crap for all I know, but I think I'm on the right track.

Whatever you're playing at the time is the hardest if you expect to give the music it's due.
This last week (ending last night, in fact) it happened to be the "Pines." (and Fountains AND Bald Mountain, etc...) The week prior it was Beethoven 8th and Tzigane (and everything else!).
It never ends.....

Yes, well - it is true that the solo you're playing at the time is the hardest ... but technically, I'd have to say that ANYTHING written by Richard Strauss gets my top billing, followed closely by Messiean and then Daphnis.

I disagree with GBK's response. The solos I always say are the hardest, are the ones I have just messed up on.
