I don't care for the Mozart --- cute, but boring to me. I like Stravinsky's Ebony Concerto (great bass clarinet part, too).

It's a tossup between the Spohr in cm, and the Stamitz in Eb. Running a close #2 is Joan Tower's concerto...

For over-all beauty, you cannot beat the Mozart Concerto in A.
However, I also really enjoy playing the Artie Shaw Concerto--it isn't too hard, it's a 'hoot' to play those glisses, and it is a real "crowd pleaser."
BTW, the Debussy PR, while not a 'concerto', still qualifies as great clarinet literature.

I like every concerto entered so far. I couldn't pick a favorite. Th Copland is up there, but so is the Spohr 2nd and 1st amd Mozart and Weber 2nd.
The Francaix Concerto is wonderful to listen to. Can't play most of it. Sort of a "Let's have some fun" concerto. THe fun goes beyond my technique.
Want to here the whole Manavich (sp) first concerto. Only heard the third movement and sounds like something to learn.
The Nielson is not at the top of my list.

Nielsen...hands down...even more favorite than Mozart...more interesting to listen to and not nearly so scary to play!
I do like the Corigliano too...but am usually not in the right mood to hear it!

I'd like to put in a vote for the Bruch Double Concerto for clarinet and viola. It's not too difficuly to master technically, but is an absolute joy to play, with the melodic lines of both soloists interplaying beautifully. The soloists' musicality and togetherness are the most important features. Much underrated and underplayed, but it would make a great starter concerto for a music undergrad.

I'm going to be different and say Weber's Fantasia and Rondo. I know it's not a true "concerto," but it sure is fun to play, particularly the rondo.
