hi,
i recently purchased a vandoren optimum ligature from out of state at about $48 new. i know this is cheaper than most places and that's what makes me curious. i haven't received it yet, but do you think this the one i bought is made out of different metal? i heard some places sold them in silver with a silver cap and cheaper ones with a plastic cap and in differece in color. what are your thoughts. by the way i purchased it from prowinds.
thanks

Musicgirl:
I'm sure it's a plastic cap. You'll find out for sure real soon. If it bothers you you can get the silver cap for $25 from the Woodwind & Brasswind. BTW, their price for the same ligature/plastic cap is $48.95. Why didn't you just buy your ligature from them

matt,
i'm not sure. some people i know said they did good business with prowinds. it was 43.95 i believe but $48 once shipping and all thay was done. i guess i'm not too worried about the cap. it's just that i saw one online once that had a plastic cap and the ligature was this goldish color. well, i guess i'll have to wait and see. i could always return it...thanks

If you're looking for a cheaper (and, in my opinion, better one) try the Vandoren black. It's very thin, so don't drop it, but it is very free and pretty dark for a metal ligature. I think it goes for $20 or less.
