Your point? At least it's as upfront as can be ...

Very interesting bass. That's my "well-hidden" point.

I wonder if it was a "Lost By Inventory" bass from a long time ago ..

I think the seller is honest and knows that the instrument needs work. I don't think the "meaning" is that hidden. He expects bidders to accept the fact that this is an old instrument and it will need work to get into playable condition. Moennig Bros.(Gr) also made a metal bass clarinet. I'm sure there were others.

What an interesting OLDx2 bass cl. I may even bid on it unless Dave S or Bergertone do. It appears to me that it goes down only to low E [no Eb pad or touch], no "Full Boehm" keying [Ab/Eb or C#/G#] BUT does have some form of Double Register keying [key on neck] maybe actuated from the rt. hand ring finger [as is now quite common]. As Kohlert's checkered history has been described before here, [this is given as the {early} Bohemia, when did German unification take place??], the quality of its constrution and tuning is open to question IMHO. Nuff said for now! Don

It is interesting, isn't it? I've always been interested in the lower metal clarinets, esp. the older ones, as Don points this one out to be.

I appreciate y'alls deference on the Kohlert metal bass clarinet, but I'm not interested in it for two reasons: (1) range only to low E and (2) metal body means it's nearly impossible to relocate toneholes, which I've had to do on every Kohlert bass clarinet I've overhauled to correct intonation problems in the lower clarion register and also some of the throat tones. Nice for a collector perhaps, but as a player I'll pass on it, thanks. Don B, go for it!

TKS Dave, even tho its my birthday [83rd], I've resisted bidding [so far], even tho one or several of our kids would prob. "buy it for me" as a present [inheritance?]. Yes, I already have a low E Conn wood bass, not bad!, but my favorite local repairers didn't want to completely re-do my 1903 Conn soprano sax, re-soldering all of the leaky tone holes, which this metal bass likely also has!! As the story goes [all I can recall is the punch line], Decisions, Decisions!. The BW is discouraging me from bidding on a '97 Lincoln Mark VIII, soon to be auctioned off today. Sorry to be so personal today, Mark C, thot there may be a "smiley" or two here. Don
