Am looking at an old Selmer with 7 rings and articulated G#. It's serial number is N26xx. The barrel logo says 10G, but I think it's too old to be a 10 series much less a G. Guy selling it doesn't know the model, says it's from the 40's. It is French.
Can any of you tell me anything about this clarinet? Model? Bore size? Worth? Thanks....

Per the serial number list right here on sneezy, this horn is from 1947. The barrel is probably a replacement.

I owned one of those M or N series Selmers ~ 30 years ago. Nice clarinet. It played rather like the later model CTs.
I don't think there was a model designation for these horns. Mine did not have any marking on it other than the serial # and the familiar Selmer Paris logo. (The Balanced Tone models from the late 1930s are distinguished by the capital letters "BT" just below the Selmer logo. The CT models from the early and mid 50s are distinguished by a script or cursive "Centered Tone" just below the Selmer logo).
These horns were large bore, probably ~0.590", but you really need to measure the bore with precision tools at both top and bottom of the upper joint.
If it plays good, it is good. If it plays poorly, and especially if it plays stuffy, try some different barrels with it before passing it up.

I've overhauled a few of these in the past. They have a rather large and unmistakable register vent. It is round with two small holes so that they can be taken out with a tool similar to snap ring pliers. I've seen some "N" serial numbers with the "Centered Tone" label, in fact, I just did one for someone in the Dallas area last month. It was a Centered Tone with the letter prefix "N". The register vent on this clarinet was more like the Series 9 and Centered Tone models.I also think they play similarly to the Centered Tone models. I have one listed on my website if you would like to look at a picture of one.

John et al - I have a 1932?? Selmer full Boehm L18xx [paid $100, pawn shop friend!!]. It has [I'm sure] the original barrel which has an internal metal tube!! which extends an inch or so into the [enlarged] UJ. Playing it with a standard ['50's] barrel is a real experience, not recommended, so I guess I'm suggesting you look at yours carefully, it might be similarly constructed!! Mine seems to play well, perhaps a bit more stuffy than my very old, reddish wood Sel FB!!. Please come to BVL, J Butler, I want to discuss these with you, guess I could just send the L to you, tho. i think you are referring to the selmer brevet series. thes were made in the 1930,s and i just happen to have one for sale cheap. email me at super20dan@aol.com
