 half-hole fingering

My basset horn has a half hole key E/B for the altissimo register. Do I still have to keep my right pinkie on G#/C# to play the high notes, as on the standard clarinet?

The Basset Horn is a strange beast!
Your ear should tell you if you need that negular "tuner" key (by the way, it's G#/D#).
I use the key, but more often use the overtone series above high "C". That is, The harmonics starting with open "G" producing a high "D", adding the register key to help the pitch up there.
Good luck and don't forget to walk that Basset before each performance!

John,
Tnx and apologies for the typo. Reason I ask is that on my instrument (Buffet Crampon) I cannot tell any difference. The notes sound clear and the intonation is correct without using the little-finger correction. I agree with you that it is a strange beast.

Hi Again:
If the "tuner' key does not improve the intonation, don't use it!
Easy solution, but also try the harmonic fingerings above high "C", they often are easier to get to and sound better.
Good luck,
John

On my bass (not a basset) I can play B with the half-hole instead of the whole covered hole. This is good for quick jumps as B-D, B-E. I don't know if it goes on the Basset.
