Next year I am playing the Bernstein piece mentioned above and wondered if anyone knew of any recordings other than the Goodman one I have which are as fine?

There is a good version by Sabine Meyer on her homage to Goodman recording.

How difficultd is the piece?
I want to do a recital tribute to Benny Goodman. I want to play the "Bennys' Gig", and a some Benny's songs. Do you know about other music can I do?

1) You could write a lift from the original 1939 Bluebird recording
of Sing, Sing, Sing (tune runs 8:36 on my CD player) and plug in
your own Krupa cadenza/duet.
2) Transcribe Benny's part/cadenza and perform it as a "repertoire"
piece inserting itnto any standard published jazz band
arrangement.
3) Got an arranger and bodies? Pen a 8-12-minute medley using
traditional/exact instrumentation. Use signature tunes/theme
songs like, Let's Dance, Bugle Call Rag, One O'Clock Jump,
Goodbye, After You've Gone, Moonglow, then maybe Sing, Sing,
Sing as the closing barnburner.
A lot of cool stuff you can do with the right musicians and support.

The John Bruce Yeh CD mentioned by GBK is produced by Reference Recordings. I went to their web site and found that it was less expensive to buy from them than through amazon.com. If you don't mind the wait, the slowest shipping -- 4th class mail? -- is free. Also, if you buy more CDs from them at the same time there is an additional small discount (which offsets the California sales tax).
I was unable to complete the order on my browser, but used their 800 number and made the order over the telephone.
Other than as a new customer, I have no connection with Reference Recordings.

Bejay:
The version on "homage to Benny Goodman" is played by Wolfgang Meyer, Sabine's brother.

Does anyone know if a piano reduction has been done for this piece?
Thanks,
Jerry McD.
