Recently at a used book sale I got a copy of what I believe to be Baermann 2 (the book itself is referred to as "2nd Division"). I've never before had occasion to use any Baermann books, so before I wade into this one, I'd like to know if the Baermann that is considered standard these days differs substantially from the book I have.
It helps that the student who once used my book wrote down the dates of his assignments. He evidently started in December 1936, and was most of the way through the book by October 1938. There are no later dates, so he may not have finished; then again, the first several pages have no dates on them either, so either before, after, or both, he just may not have been writing in the book itself.
Anyway, to tear myself away from the clarinet studies of an aspiring student about 65 years ago, I conclude that this Baermann dates from 1936 or earlier. Does anyone have reason to believe that it would have changed since then?

In agreement with Al, probably not. Unless somewhere it states 'revised', there has been no compelling reason to have changed anything.
What a neat piece of history though - even if only for your own speculation.

The original 1917 Carl Fischer edition the Baermann Op.63 - First, Second and Third Divisions (revised/edited by Langenus), has been reprinted in its original format ever since.
Don't forget about Baermann III (third division) - an essential study method, which some call the "clarinetist's bible.". (It has been on my music stand for close to 40 years)...GBK

Thanks to Al, Ron B., and GBK. No, I won't forget Baermann 3, which I see cited on this BB quite often, but I don't think I'm ready for it yet. First I have to get through the last Rubank advanced method, and then I'll take on Baermann 2, and if I finish with that prior to becoming a corpse, I'll set my sights on 3.
Note to Mark C.--my postings seem to have taken on that slash-before-the-apostrophe artefact that befell a number of people a few months ago. Doesn't bother me especially, just thought you might need to know about it, in the context of the new servers and all.

Michael -
You should start your Baermann III work immediately. If you're in the Rubank Advanced books, you're more than ready.
Just take it a little at a time, and as slow as you need to go to get through each exercise perfectly.
