Okay, I'm starting another thread because the thread i started before deviated from it's original subject. This question has to do with an E&S Master Model serial number: K5599 (made in 1954 according to boosey). I did a search on the E&S, but there was an overload of information. What i want to is: Is there a difference between the 1950's model of the E&S and later models? If so, would they make a big difference for myself, a HS player? I'm big on intonation, so I also need to know if a 1954 model would have undercut tone holes. The seller says it does, but I'd like to make sure. Thanks again for your infinite help.

This clarinet would not have undercut tone holes, UNLESS it was done by a repair person. Certainly, it was not done at the factory. I overhauled and sold one with a serial number not too far from this one in February, so I can speak with some authority. Intonation is a different catagory. It may or may not play with good intonation, that is why you need to get approval to have a trial period to evaluate the instrument.

Another question. I have been offered an Evette (E11 equivilent clarinet) that was made in 1972, and an Evette and Schaeffer made in 1930, both overhauled in the same price range. Would there be any disadvantages to buying a very old clarinet (the seller says it is in very good condition [and is a sneezy regular]) opposed to the newer, but lower model clarinet? I have already been given main technical and structural differences between the two by the seller, but want another opinion. Thanks a lot.
