Hi everyone. I've just purchased a brand new, in-the-box LeBlanc for what appears to be a good price ($800). Unfortunately, I can't find any information on this model (which I gather is no longer for sale). Is anyone familiar with this model? Please help if you can. Is this a pro horn?

Yes Mike, it is a pro horn. It is the discontinued LX series from LeBlanc. (I was the other bidder.) It was designed by Leon LeBlanc. After it was discontinued LeBlanc went to the LX-2000 series which was a smaller (.574) bore. I believe the LX was a .582 bore which is more typical of Leon Leblanc's designs. It should be a good instrument for the money. It just depends on how it plays for you. The only disadvantage of buying off eBay is you take your chances. Even the Concerto's you see listed by the Australian and Great Britain music dealers have a risk. Sure, they are new instruments and probably play well, but you really don't get that opportunity to sit down and play four, five or six and choose the one that plays best for you.
Good luck with it and let me know how it turns out.

I agree with J B's comments on your LeBlanc, it should be a very good player. I have a number of LeB brochures of the 60-80's vintage, the wall-hanging poster [I'm trying to find it!] lists and describes under the model #'s, I believe the S indicates silver-plated keys. My L7, also of the .580's bore [cylindrical] diameter, blows very easily with good intonation and the best "feel" of any of my cls. I suggest trying a number of mps and reeds to find your "best" setup. Luck, Don

I thought the Classic series was different than the LL series. Am I mistaken? Maybe just an earlier version of the LL?

I believe the "LL" is a .582 bore...let me check....yes, it is. Now, the "Classsic" is an older instrument and my LeBlanc literature doesn't go back that far. I do have a Classic II in stock, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to measure the bore. LeBlanc has always been great about using different labels for essentially the same clarinet for example the "Ambiance" (in line trill keys)and the "Infinite" (off set jump keys). By reading the literature there doesn't seem to be any difference. BTW I understand the LeBlanc deleted he "Ambiance" line about the same time it deleted the "Eternite". The latter being the same bore design as the "Concerto". No use essentially two "like" instruments in competition with each other.
Perhaps there is someone on the BB that has some older LeBlanc literature and can share the bore diameter and configuration with us of the "Classic".

The only Classic of my acquaintance is in Calif [grandson], but my impression wo: measurement, is, it was, to some extent, a cylindrical competitor with the "Carree" Buffets of the mid 50's, ?about? .575"??. LeBlanc [it seems to me] always tried to match the various Buff and Selmer models from small to large, .590, bores, as in the P F's and similars, now most seem to be mid .580+ bore, and polycyl [conicals?], suggest asking Tom Ridenour. I have a letter form Leblanc regarding my 1176. They had the serial number and confirmed that it was made in 1964 and was an 1176. The serial number of the ebay instrument was such that it seemed to be in the same series and appropriately different considering the year it was supposed to have been manufactured. Their internet site shows LL 1176's as having a .582 bore presently. I assume that an 1176 is always an 1176. My case looks exactly like the one on e-bay and the year is close enough that I assumed it was the same clarinet. I don't think Leblanc shows "Classic" (or "Classique") on the body of any of their instruments and that this reference was a guess by the seller.

JimS...,
You’re mistaken. I have one that shows "Classic II" on the body and have seen them marked as "Classic" too....V

Yes, I see you are right. Do you think they start calling their 1176's "Classics" in 1965 or so, or do you suppose these have a different model number?
