What can anyone tell me about the Buffet Festival model? I am trying one, a Greenline, and I like the tone. But why is this model so rare in the U.S.? How does it compare to the Prestige model? I live in a dry, often very hot, often very cold climate, so a Greenline model is attractive, but I wonder how the composite affects the tone?

Linda,
I'm going to purchase the Festival next month. The reason I like it is the alternate aux Eb key. Unfortunatly, in Buffet, you can only find the aux Eb key only available on the Prestiges (in this case I can not afford), and the Festival. I'm affraid to say that that's the only reason I like to own it.

I have alot of friends who play on the Festival's and they love them. I tried a few of those and the Prestiges. They're both really great horns. I however prefer the tone of the Buffet R13 or the Vintage.

Wan, that should NOT be the only reason you purchase a particular clarinet. If the aux Eb key is that important to you, please note that Buffet will put it on any of their clarinets. In fact, there is an E-12 (possibly an E-13?) on eBay right now with the auxiliary key. It's an option on all their horns. (Leblanc, Yamaha, and Selmer as well.) You should buy an instrument because you love it, and it plays well for you...and you have to try a few before you can make that decision.

The festival is a good instrument which has a hard time getting recognition in North America. It has become the instrument of choice for a number of top notch French Player. Check the artist section on the boosey web site...

Has anyone heard about the resistence a prestige has? I played on a few and I found that it took a little more air to get the tone i wanted. It may be just me, but if anyone knows anything about the bore, it would be helpful.
