does anyone out there ever heard of the basset clarinet virtouso Stadler in Switzerland. He has the most amazing tone, and wondered if anyone out there admired his work as much as I do?

Is this Stadler by any chance a descendent of Anton Stadler, virtuoso who inspired Mozart's clarinet concerto?

His name is Hans Rudolf Stalder (not Stadler)
He is a fabulous virtuoso. I have many of his recordings...GBK

Hans Rudolf Stalder was principal in the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. He was the star of the show at the Clarinet Congress at Oberlin several years ago. His tone was gigantic -- he played a recital with pipe organ accompaniment and effortlessly filled the huge and famously dead concert hall at the Oberlin Conservatory. Yet with all the resonance, he played with great sensitivity and beauty.
He made, I think, the first recording of the Mozart Concerto with a basset extension for his Buffet. Because it was not an instrument built for the extension, the intonation was off, and the notes below low E had a distinct change to bass clarinet color. Nevertheless, it was an outstanding performance, with fine tone and wonderful musicianship.
He was also a top teacher. If you look for his name on Google, you'll find him on many performers' biographies as someone they studied with.
