I absolutely love this beautiful piece of music and was wondering if anyone has played it or know of any really fantastic recordings of it? I have one that i found online and it's gorgeous but i have NO idea who's playing.

I have played the Mozart Serenade. It's a fantastic piece and I got the pleaseure of playing the first Basset Horn part. There are quite a few recordings about I think. Try amazon.com or amazon.co.uk (if your in the UK) Not 100% certain if they will have any but it's worth a go.

I do have a version of the lovely Gran Partita. It is by the French Harmonie de l'Orchestre des Champs Elysées, directed by Philippe Herreweghe and published by Harmonia Mundi ref# HMX2981570. I can't tell whether that would be available in the US (I assume you're in the US, I could be wrong). It comes with the Serenade #12 K388 "Nacht Musique".

BMG classical has a recording of this and another one of Mozart's wind serenades available for a couple of bucks as a part of their "Spring Cleaning" promotion. I saw it on a flyer accompanying the main mailing I received yesterday. If you belong, it might be worth a look.

Try the recording of this with Neville Marriner on Philips with the Academy of St. martin in the Fields, or the fine one of Harnoncourt with a Viennesse group on Teldec.

Good. clean performance. Good music made. Intonation is superb. The lines are just beautiful in all the movements. There is the K375 & K388 (#11 & 12) also.

There are more than 25 different recordings of K.361.
The 3 that are consistantly touted as the most outstanding performances (Penguin Guide, Gramophone, American Record Guide) are:
Hogwood / Amadeus Winds LOI 421 437-2
Kuijken / Octophorous Ensemble ACT 68642
Schneider / Chamber Orch of Europe Winds ASV COE 804
I have both the Hogwood and the Schneider recordings, along with other versions by the Berlin Winds, Berkes(excellent), Casals, and Harnoncourt.
My personal choice, if I had to narrow it down to one: Hogwood / Amadeus Winds. (The clarinetists are Lawrence McDonald and William McColl) ..GBK

There's a special place in my heart for the set of the complete Mozart wind music that Jack Brymer did with the London Winds back around 1965. Even though they use a contrabassoon on K. 361, the performance has a unique sense of joy. You just can't believe how great the music and performance are. It's available on an inexpensive London CD reissue.
The Hogwood and Kuijken recordings (both on reproductions of Mozart-era instruments) are both excellent, as are their recordings of the two 8-part serenades, K. 375 and K. 388.
If you can play LPs, look in the used record bins for a recording of K. 375 and K. 388 conducted by Arthur Winograd, with a group called the M-G-M Winds (or something else, depending on the label). It's a bunch of NBC Symphony players, with the great Augustin Duques on 1st Clarinet, and it's a real winner.

I studied with Mr. bryer only breifly in 1953 and marveled at his understanding of the Mozart idiom. The new transfers by Decca to Cd are wonderful...I saw Fredrick Thurston play this music in London in 1946 and, I can tell you he had an unbelievable focus on his sound...my 1010s never managed to sound like his....I always had some trouble with the way RCA recorded the NBC but maybe the new CDs are better than my old 78s and 33s, I will also say that Anthony Pay under marriner is pretty amazing..... also Bernard Walton I saw play a great deal in London in the 50s and his recording under Otto Klemperer is HEAVEN!!!gET THIS AT ALL COST!!!!!

I'm surprised that no one has mentionded the two Marlboro recordings. One is under the Marlboro Society label and the other is actually called the Marlboro Alumnni Ensemble. Both have Marcel Moyse conducting.
The Marlboro Society recording has:
Clar-Stoltzman, Glazer
BassHn-F.Cohen, Eban
The Alumni Ensemble recording is-
clar-Wright, Genovese
BassHn-J. Bruce Yeh, the other Genovese
Both excellent recordings in different ways.
