 Basset horn rental
Author: Todd

Does anyone know where I can rent a pair of basset horns in the Greater San Francsico Bay Area? I'm interested in performing Mozart's "Serenade in B-flat, KV 370a" (Urtext edition by Barenreiter) and would like to adhere to Mozart's instrumentation, rather than use B-flat clarinets as substitutes for the basset horns. Thanks!

I'd suggest you contact Al Rice at the Claremont, CA Fiske Museum, curator, very knowledgable partic. re: clarinets. I have always wanted to experiment with alto cls on a Mozart or so, the transposition from F to Eb [similar to from C to Bb] could be read [with care] . The lowest notes would have to be octaved tho!! Don
