 Opperman mouthiece question
Author: david dow
Date:   2002-05-29 12:47

I have two opperman mouthpieces from the 80s and wonder if anyone out there knows there respective value and whether or not they are good. I'd say they are about 20 years old and they are not faded or warped whatsoever.

If they're from the 80's then I'd have to agree they could be about 20 years old. If they play well, then they are good. If you want to know their value, put them up for auction on eBay and see how much they sell for.

David -

Kal got $35 for a mouthpiece in the 1970s. Now he makes them only for his students and charges $200. He uses the very best blanks and does extensive hand work. In my opinion, they're the best mouthpieces you can get. (I play on them.)

If yours are in pristine condition, I'd set a reserve on each of at least $100 on eBay. Better yet, play on them. (They work best with double lip embouchure.)

Best regards.

Or you could try selling them through sneezy's classifieds. There are a couple of us who study with Opperman students- not quite close enough for us to qualify on his list of who he'll make mouthpieces for! If you're looking to sell, I'm interested.

I just sold an Opperman on ebay for $195. About the same price i paid for it a few months ago. Picked up one i liked better about a month ago for about the same price as well. The one that i have now makes a good back-up to my Kaspars.

I noticed that they are also very long facings compared with the norm, also does Opperman make only one facing or facings to specification?
