Of course there is ... if the info hasn't been publically announced then of course you can get in trouble ...

In regards to LaLa's repeated postings about the recent audition for Principal clarinet in the Philadelphia Orchestra, I, for one, am getting tired of these repeated postings in which LaLa says that she has information which she can't tell us. It reminds me of a child saying, "I know something you don't know."

I don't see why this is such a top secret matter. Among the clarinetists who took the audition, I am sure that the names of the three finalists is common knowledge. The fact that the orchestra hasn't announced the finalists publically doesn't necessarily mean that the matter is a secret. Perhaps the orchestra just doesn't see that it is it's responsiblity to enlighten the rest of the curious clarinet world.

As to LaLa's postings, a review of her past postings show that she lives in Hong Kong. As she is not in the US, I have trouble seeing what type of trouble she could get into by revealing her information. I can't imagine what type of recourse the Philadelphia Orchestra could have against such a leak and I can't imagine why they would care.

Furthermore, as she is from Hong Kong, I believe that she is likely to have limited first hand knowledge about American auditions and clarinetists. Her information problably comes from her teacher (she has said she is a student). For her teacher in Hong Kong to know this, it is likely that he was one of the clarinetists auditioning for the job and that this teacher is in fact one of the finalists. Again, it stands to reason that LaLa is probably studying with one of the fine clarinetists in the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

So LaLa, which one of the 3 clarinetists in the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Andrew Simon, John Schertle, or Michael Campbell, do you think is a finalist?

I'm admit that I am also curious to know. If you don't feel that you can answer, then don't. But please don't keep telling us that you know but can't tell. It is rather tiresome. Also, the 3 finalists, I'm sure, are all very fine players. I don't think you have to worry that you will jinx them.

Finally, I'm also curious as to who won the recent auditions in Kansas City, San Antonio, Louisiana and 2nd in Richmond? I guess I could call some friends or I could wait for it to be announced in the International Musician. But if anyone knows, I'd like to know.

Thanks,

Andre Canabou

The Philadelphia Orchestra isn't under any obligation to disclose any audition information to the general public or release the names of finalists and/or selectees. Miss-information and idol gossip can HURT people's lives and careers...in respect to the people and organization invloced, how about keeping mum about it if you've got any inside dope. Let the audition staff and job recipient(s) make the announcement themselves...it's their orchestra and clarinetist who got the gig and earned the right to blow their own horns...literally.

From a previous post, the author lala's e-mail address is listed as

Like any pro orchestra the Philadelphia orchestra is under no pressure to give names out until they desire to. Remember also the conditions of employment between the winner and the employmer may still be under discussion, so at a critical time like this, privacy between the employer and the winner is important!
