After years of struggling with Vandorens, and Daniels, I've recently discovered a bunch of boxes of old #3.5 Sinus Reeds at my music store. Pretty much no one buys them and they've been there for ages. A clarinet player who works there and who has found success with them, recommended I try them... so I did and they are great. They come in boxes of 12 (they are quite expensive unfortunately) and I found about 7 or 8 playable reeds right out of the box. Some of them I have ben working on and they are fantastic. I'm just wondering if many other people fround around the world know about these reeds and if they have the success that I do with them.

i used the APO bass clarinet a while back, and James Fry (an Aussie player resident here in nz) had left a couple of Sinus Bass clarinet reeds in the case- i didn't try them out though... i've never seen or heard of Sinus until they were mentioned a while back here on Sneezy, i don't think they are in stock at any of the major US retailers.

I have never tried Sinus reeds myself but I may well do so in the future ,at present I use V-12's.There seems to be only a sporadic supply of Sinus reeds in the UK.The speil for these reeds goes-Hand made in germany by Rudolf Pflaumer-quality response and dark tonal colour.Individually hand finished and selected for strength.

"Individually hand finished and selected for strength."
I hope that does not mean that he would pre-play the reeds during this "finishing" process. (yuk!!! if he does)
Good Clarineting!!! (staying with V12's for a while yet)

I know several professional players in the north of England, including my own partner/girlfriend (whatever you say) who use Sinus reeds, though I don't myself.

glad you like Sinus reeds. I did not get on with the box I bought, which is probably down to me, since I have only heard good things about them generally. Perhaps I should try again.
