Can anyone give me there opinion of Alexander clarinet reeds,Superial or Classique as I am considering trying some out and any input would be much appreciated.

in about 1995 Jerry Neil Smith went though a phase of using these- at the time he was principal clarinet of the Oklahoma Philharmonic, and i heard him do a very nice performance of the Quartet for end of Time.... he played with a lovely ringing tone and was using an Alexander Superial that he said he had done no adjusting to (bad english, but i'm in a hurry). he gave me two empty tins- they come in these great tins that can be used to store stuff in, cool!
years later i tried them out, and found i could get some good results, but the ones i got weren't quite the right strength..... i never bothered to follow this through and try the next size down..... it seems to me that this is crucial- often someone tries a new reed out, gets them too strong or too soft and this can leave a very discouraging impression. get some for the tins though, and if you like the reeds great, if you don't- you got something to pile your "reeds being broken in" into..... (i lined mine with foam, and still use them nearly ten years later, thanks Jerry!)

I was selling them for a while, but the demand did not meet expectations and I needed the money for other inventory items (read repair parts). I really like the DC reeds a lot. The regular Superials did not respond well for me, and the Classique reeds didn't seem to last. The DC reeds play the best for me and seem to last a while. I use the DC 3.5 for clarinet and the DC 3.0 for alto and tenor sax. I still use the VanDoren V-12 3.5 as well.

Nothin good to report. Very unreliable with regard to strength. I think the web site has a comparison chart to help choose a strength.
