Has anyone ever seen an artistic drawing/design on the bell of a clarinet (you know like Harley riders paint on their gastank)? If so, what have you seen? Just wondering.

I've seen (on eBay a couple of carved, bas relief, bells. I 'think' they were Selmers. As I recall, the image was that of a face in a sort of (sculptured) Grecian style.
Have never seen Harley gastank pinstriping on a clarinet.
I think Diz's koala concept would be more suitable.... hmmmm

... and on the first day she arose again from the dead.
Welcome back, Carol, glad to hear that reports of your untimely demise were premature!
Perhaps if you still have any of your clarinet cooties, you could set them to work engraving. ;^)
Best regards,
jnk

I've seen a few cls [Selmers in particular?] with more-heavily engraved bells and joints. On saxes, I generally associate highly engraved bells [etc] with the higher-of-the-line insts, Selmer Mark 6's and Conns [6's, etc and N L's] are good examples. Don

The 1950s top of the line Selmer Omega model had engraving on the bell, extending about an inch or so onto the bottom joint. It was 2 fairly simple grapevines (alternating leaves, no grapes or tendrils), but was deeply incised and looked very nice. I think the current Selmer (US) Omega student has, or used to have, a lightly engraved vine motif with gold leaf in it.

The rest of us don't know the rest, Carol. Maybe for the best that we don't. But, yeah, glad you decided to return :]
