I have a Van Doren Optimum ligature. I notice that the ligature fits properly into the metal cap when the ligature screw is tightened all the way. When I finish playing, I remove my reed and store it in a reed case. Will it harm the mouthpiece(without reed) to be stored INSERTED loosely into the fully tightened ligature/ cap assembly?

I like to put a reed over the facing to protect it. An old synthetic reed works very well but a cane reed (an old or dead one) works also. One good nick can very well be the end of a mouthpiece.

I use reed blanks when storing my mpc/lig/cap to protect the lay, rails and tip from any possible damage. Probably, a loosely tightened ligiture with the cap is a safe manner of storage, but being a naturally clumsey person makes me a bit over protective. Good Clarineting!!!!! (economics is also a concern as my mpcs are expensive and irreplacable)

Both above sound like good practices. Personally I get paranoid about my mouthpieces and so I store them in separate pouches when not being used.
