i'm wondering if playing a brass instrument can harm me playing the clarinet. I would like to play the trumpet during marching season (which I really hate) but I'm not sure if it can harm my emboucher. Thanks! -won

This has come up several times. Everyone who's tried it says playing a brass instrument does no harm at all to your clarinet embouchure. You just have to make sure you keep up your clarinet practice.

Hello. I'll give my opinion on this question, though it's only my opinion. I play primarily the Euphonium, but I also play Clarinet. I don't find that either adversely affects my embouchure for the other. The clarinet certainly hasn't adversely affected my euphonium embouchure, because I've increased my euph. range by an octave in each direction since I've started playing clarinet. Also, I played Euphonium before playing clarinet, and yet my clarinet tone is still pretty good. Not perfect yet, of course, but pretty good. So, in my opinion, I don't think playing both trumpet and clarinet would hurt much. Trumpet is only an octave above Euphonium. Unfortunately, I can't give you any ideas on the trumpet specifically, though, because I don't play it.

From my experience (with all brass instruments, trumpet included) it doesn't affect your embouchure at all. Though the trumpet is a tough nut to get good tone on by itself.

I agree with those above, (who say) playing cornet never seemed to interfere with my clarinet playing. The amount of intelligent practice you devote to either one will determine how good you become at playing it. I can say, from personal experience, that brass playing will not harm you... but I never won any awards to prove it.

We have a wood clarinet that has stamped on it Martin Freres Paris
then underneath that it is stamped 1740 the Concorde. We do not know if this is the correct date or not. Also we would like to know it's approx. value. Thanks
