Does anyone on the list know of a community band in or near Kerrville, Tx? We are moving up there this summer and I can't find any info on this. San Antonio is 50 miles away and a bit too far.

You're moving away from Hitchcock?! I thought everyone loved the mosquitos too much to move away from there! Seriously, I don't know anyone up in that area, but you might find out something from the TMEA website. I'll investigate and get back.

Also, a good source of information is always either the local high school or middle school band director or any local music store that sells wind instruments. If their isn't one, you could always start one. Our local music store sponsers a "New Horizans" band program for adult beginners, directed by local school band directors one night a week. The programs offers lessons as well as group rehearsal and instruction and has proven so popular that they recently started a jazz ensemble as well as a symphony orchestra. The concert band regularily plays at local nursing homes, schools and city parks, and last year took a trip to Hawaii to perform for a convention. A music program like this one for adult beginners (and adult experianced players as well) is good for business, great for building (and maintaining) positive self esteem among it's participants and good for the community as a whole. If the local music store is unwilling to take on such a project (translation=commercial idiot) then perhaps a local VFW, insurance agency, church or some other civic-minded organization could sponser such a band. It takes some doing, but it can be done. Good Luck with your move and for continued Good Clarineting!!!! William

So far the "shows" are done by a jazz band from San Antonio, and an Ompah band in Oct. I'll be going into the V. A. hospital there in first week of June to have my ticker tweaked. If I survive that, I'll definately be doing some snooping around. Going from two active Com. Bands to none is liable to have negative effects on me.

Willie: Good luck on the "tweaking" and the snooping. I had a rod inserted 5 years ago and everything seems ok so far. I quit playing after my heart attack and thought I was done for ever. When the doctor said I could play again, a clarinetist came to my home with a book of easy duos, set up a stand, put my horn together and away we went. I shall always thank him!
