I have some of these but they were purchased 20 years ago by Chappell Warner as a tribulte to clarinet players. I admire his stle of soling...he did a great solo with Monk once which I transcribed by ear....

wjk - Pee-wee was one of a kind, a contemporary and roommate of Bix Beiderbecke, he transcended styles and was one of the few trad musicians who experimented with be-bop.
As far as transcribed solos, I don't think Pee-wee ever played the same tune exactly the same - he was truly extemporaneous, and I think that even he was surprised at what came out of his horn. I would suggest getting recorded copies of some of your favorite solos and try transcribing them. A good exercise. I think there may even be some software out there to help with that if you have the music on CD. Good luck, Charlie C.

I'm sure that PWR is well written-up in the many Jazz books in libraries, I believe the first I'd look in would be Groves Dict. ----, which might have his discography, to begin a search for his "publications". Don

There is a fairly recent biography of Pee wee called "Life of a Jazz Man" I think.....maybe be a good source of info on him....by the way, an interesting bit of trivia...Pee Wee played and I believe recorded with Bix AND Thelonius Monk! Man , that's what I call versatile!
