i should know this - but since i dont - i guess i had better ask -
i know that when theres an accidental in a measure - like an E flat becomes an E natural, that any other E in that measure is also natural - right? well - what if the accidental is on a grace note?
im playing this song - key sig Bb/Eb and in one measure i have an E top space on staff w/accidental written in and F top line staff grace notes leading up to a G. The second beat of the measure has a high E (above the staff) should it also be natural?

Theoretically it might be...BUT I'd bet,without seeing the music, that it's an Eb.
Is the music tonal enough for you to feel that it's E and not Eb?
Is this piece for clarinet solo or is it a band or orchestra part?
If a solo, do you have the accompaniment so you can determine from the harmony,if possible?

well - noone in my band likes it and i thot i might get some flack if i mentioned it - but if it helps to answer my question its His Honor March. i like it, dont know why no one else does - do you?

His Honor March, Fillmore I believe (Ab concert). Unless the accidental is notated otherwise (the ink) those grace notes, or little rips should be played/remain "in the key" (written Eb), especially if they're repeated in the same measure. Ask your conductor about it or check the part against the score to confirm, often in marches what "sounds right" melodically aren't necessarily the correct notes. Hopefully there's a full score and it's not condensed. If it is and you're playing the 1st part also listen to the upper woodwinds in that section, i.e. flute and picc to hear if they're playing the same figure in unison/same octave. Unlikely, but maybe the 1st cornet might have it down the octave. v/r

Accidentals do happen.... seriously check with the conductor in the full score if your score or part seems whacky...

Oh my goodness, "His Honor" march, one of the first I ever played back in 1940, also "Our Director".....Wish I could find the little "band book" they were in for nostalgia's sake....
