Has anyone heard the recent recording of the Messiean Quartour pour le Fin de Temps on DG with Paul Meyer. I thinks its very musically done with excellent sound and deserves the Grammy it received....there are a few moments of ensemble problems but it is a very emotional performance...does any one out there share my regard for this great CD?

Yes, I've only heard a few recordings of this, but this one definitely stands out. Meyer’s range of expression is remarkable.

I must say Paul Meyer is definitely my favourite (nothing to do with the fact we both are Frenchies...). Anything from Mozart K622 to Messiaen is always a pure delight when played by Paul Meyer.

The Meyer recording is also somewhat of a controversy now because of the rythmic aspects the players bring to it. There is a question over interpretation of 16ths in certain places, and yetll I think they really bring out the beauties of this strange music. This would be consider a more improvisitory reading than the measure view that Tashi has...yet I love both!!!
