 Prestige R-13
Author: James
Date:   1999-07-27 23:38

I called my local Sam Ash music stores and the people there don't seem to know much about clarinets. I am looking for a reason to buy the expensive Prestige R-13 without the stupid salesman babble. I want to know how it is compares to the R-13, the Festival, and other clarinets within its price range.

The Prestige is a wonderful clarinet but its really up there in price I chose my festival over the prestige simply because it was the cheper one of the two. I love the sound of it and they are very dependable, you made an excellent choice. I'm sure you'll enjoy playing it!

The real difference I see is the silver plated keys and they extra key on the left hand side..
Silver keys are nice if you can affoard it.. as for the alternate key the question is will you use it and do you need it...
I personally play two R-13s and am very happy with them both.

i think also the toneholes are undercut differently, though i can't say i know what that means or what difference it makes. also, i've heard from a person who's visited the factory in freance many times, that they pick the "best" wood for prestige model, next best for r 13, and so on, but..... that may or may not be true. who knows. it's a great horn, though. i'm sure if you get used to it, the extra key will come in very handy
