I know im taking up a lot of topic space, i hope that people can bear with me and my horrible spelling.
I was talking to a friend of mine who plays trumpet and he was recently interviewed by some newspaper or something of the sort about acomplishing getting presidential distinction from winning the college audition at juiliard. He was complaining about how the reporter was asking stupid questions like, "what do you like about the trumpet", "do you like to play video games?".
He was pretty insulted. He (and also myself) think that the adult world views us as something else than young professionals. We spend our time working to become the very best musicians that we can be. We are just like regular professional musicians except we aren't as good due to our youth and inexpeirence.
Im just curious to what people would have to say about that. Thanks!

Holding many newspaper reporters up as paragons of the interviewing art is asking for trouble (sorry, beejay ;^)
The reporters ask what they their general readership will be interested in. Your friend being insulted with this kind of questioning will only re-inforce a stereotype of performers being arrogant. He/She will have to get used to it if they're in the public's eye.
How many times do you think Stoltzman gets asked what equipment he's using?
Do you think he considers that a terribly important question?
