I recently compeated in the Fishoff chamber competetion on the high school level with the wind quintet i play in called the "bait n' tackle" winds. Anyhow, we compeated in the competetion and made it up to the semi finals which is actually quite an accomplishment considering fishoff winners and semi finalists are always string groups, there hasn't been one quintet wind or brass that has gone on to the HS semi finals or semi-finals.
Let me rephrase that. Until now, Another quintet from the Chicago Youth Symphony got the idea to add a piano to their ensemble and call themselves the Ivory Winds. They played fantastically, and the pianist is a big difference! Everyone should consider putting a pianst in their quintet, it gives them a serious edge.
The clarinetist with the group is Gina Gulh, an amazing clarinetist who was the top auditionee for clarinet at the Eastman school of music. She has this tone that is amazing. She is a truely fantastic player and everyone should epect to hear her name in the future! This isn't really a question but more of an effort to publically congradulate gina and the ivory winds and give the rest of us some good tips! Good Clarineting!

Well done - there's nothing quite as satisfying as playing chamber music. Find a local (good) community orchestra and give the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Horn a go (no flute, unfortunately).

They rank the auditionees? I never heard of this before. They surely didn't at NEC, CIM, DePaul, USC, UofMich, and a couple others a few years ago. Either you made it in or you didn't.

Hey Mark! Well i guess i should rephrase that, 2nd hand imformation, i get mixted up too! :( She was award the highest merrit scholarship of 15,000 dollars. I would think just like everyone else that meant she was the top auditionee, but i could be wrong, I DON'T want to cause any trouble, sorry for any fuss i may have caused.
