Should mouthpiece tip openings be matched to the bore size of clarinets? In general, should open mouthpieces be used on wide bore clarinets and more closed mouthpieces used with narrower bore instruments?

Tip opening is only related to the strength of reed being used, not the size of your clarinets bore. What may be more important in your mouthpiece is the size of it's chamber in relation to the upper joint for intonation and response. Perhaps Gregory or Walter could elaborate with more authority on this topic. Good Clarineting!!

Wm says it very well, I agree, tho, while I'm an advocate for matching mp to barrel, AND barrel to UJ bores, I'm at a loss re: mp "chamber" ?selection? except by "cut and try" methods. Is help available?? TKS, Don

OPPS--Mean't to say that the mpc chamber should be matched to the barrel, not the upper joint. Sorry, must have spent too much time on my long tones. Good Clarineting--and Clarifying!!!
