Also go to the Klarinet archives on this site and search on Malerne. I'm pretty sure you'll find out some information about the company there.
Best regards,
jnk

Naturally the questions I ask are:
1. Bb or Bass?
2. Where, How nuch?
I have a Bb "Standsrd" and a Bass Conn (R. Malerne stencil). Both fine instruments.

Ask Dave Spiegalthal about R M's, he specializes in them [basses!]. Those Bb's I've run across were good, especially those with lots of wordage/decoration on the horn! Don

I wouldn't quite say I specialize in Malernes, but I have restored a fair number. The "Professional" model soprano clarinet I would classify as a good intermediate/advanced instrument, but not quite professional level. Not worth a whole lot on the market, but worth keeping and playing. Could have been made anywhere from the 40's to early 70's, I think (I'm not aware of a serial number list for Malerne -- anyone else know of such a thing?). Robert Malerne made lots of stencil clarinets and saxes that were marketed under other manufacturers' names including Conn, Olds, Linton, Gretsch, and probably a few more.
