Hi
Well tonight was the last performance of our High Schools spring Musical. Yes, we did WEST SIDE STORY. No pro's were used. All students. And after all the rehearsing from november till now. Im proud to say its been one of the greatest musical experiences Ive ever had. Switching between three clarinets, loveable lyrics and just downright fun music make it i cant miss oppurtunity. If you ever have the chance to play in the pit for this great work, take it. Even if you are not the Reed 2 clarinet player, its really worth it. ITs interesting also when analyzing the improvement made from thursday and fridays performances leading up until tonite. Granted when you practice, you dont always create the same good things accomplished on stage, but if you have the chance to do the performance twice or more, thats when you can really improve. Well im just kida rambling now so ill leave this up to your comments on West Side. . ..

Good for your group for using all students. Some of the local colleges here will hire the top pros for their musicals which is analogous to hiring NFL football players to help the college team. Good luck!

I've been fortunate enough to have played WSS twice, once with Tom Wopat (TVs Dukes of Hazzard) as Tony. It is a real credit to any high school that can stage this musical without relying on pro help. Congraduations, Carmen--hope you had fun. Keep up the Good Clarineting!!!!!

How many different orchestrations are there for this show?
When I played it the 2nd woodwind chair involved playing the flute. I was playing 3rd which involved Eb clar. Bass clar. & alto sax. I think the original scoring involved all woodwinds in playing clars. saxes & double-reeds.
