Um, I work in Marketing - it was a king of narcissitic comment really, also - I'm very fond of a nice, vintage "Cab Sav"

I tried the selmer, i can't remember the name, but they are thick walled... VERY thick walled... i must say it had a very nice sound but the shear girth of the instrument was something to get used to!

Go for straight Shiraz, something good like a Montrose Mudgee Black Shiraz or the nearby Farmers Daughter 1999. Dont sip the stuff either. Cook up a monster pot of pasta. Put on the right type of music, Saint Saen or Mahler should do the trick followed by some John Coltrane and guzzle away to your hearts content.

I tried the Selmer Artis today. It seems like a good instrument. It has only been out for three weeks yet so maybe thats why they haven't put it on the website.
My experience with Selmer is very limited since I've played Buffet my whole life but this one differs from the Selmer models I've tried so far. It reminds me more of a good Buffet for whatever it's worth for Selmer addicts.

Clairgirl - the "real" Larry Combs does read this BBoard very occasionally; however, it's easy to forge an address, so it may or may not be the "real" Larry Combs.

For Alphie - what location/store did you try the Artys?

Ralph, we had people from Selmer who came to our orchestra to present their products.
A colleague of mine wanted to try an Artys over a longer period of time so that's the one I tried. He usually play a Chadash Bb and sounded very good on the Artys. Another colleague who also plays Chadash normally sounded like s..t on the Artys.
After having tried the Artys I got the feeling that it's something in between an R-13 and a Festival in respons. But as I said before, my experience is only with Buffet. Other parameters like intonation egality and such I just didn't have time to reflect about.

I had an opportunity to try out the new Selmer clarinet line the other week at a Stockholm music shop.
The two new models, Odyssée and Artys, were developed in collaboration with Jean-Pascal Post, solo clarinetist with the French Radio Philharmonic orch.
They are supposedly Selmers try at making "standard" clarinets, unlike the super-fat Recital and evened-out Signature.

In my opinion the Odyssée is very free blowing with a large sound. It has little resistance and might be difficult to control for the experienced player.

The Artys is a little more resistant and reminded me a lot of the Buffet RC i normally play.

They were both fine instruments, I recommend anyone looking for a professional model to try them out. Especially the Artys.
