"What a beauty?" that's rather aussie vernacular, what? Dave, have you been watching too many dodgy aussie films, prithee?

Ah, YES, hope my lottery ticket wins! I'd be happy to try it out, just to see if my small hands are adequate, [of course!] . Don

We'd all still be looking for the PERFECT setup fellas. Wonder what mouthpiece/ligature comes with it? And how about that one-time-thing "The P{erfect Reed". Another 5thou spent in the search?

Although I admire the Selmer 37 (and newer Buffet 1193-2) bass clarinets, I'm not actually lusting after them --- I've tried one of the Buffets and two Selmer 37's, and although they are beautiful to look at and the keywork feels terrific, neither model played (in my opinion) noticeably better than my old (modified) Kohlert (thank you eBay!). So I admire, but do not lust. Besides, having a great mouthpiece is the most important thing, IMHO, and I've got two of those. And you will find that when you have a REALLY good mouthpiece, two other things seem to happen: (1) your choice of ligature doesn't matter so much, and (2) you get a high percentages of good reeds from a box, from just about any reputable reed manufacturer. So my advice to other players would be: Talk to Clark Fobes, Roger Garrett, Walter Graebner, Charles Bay, etc. about mouthpieces FIRST --- then worry about the instrument, the reeds, and the ligature.

Very well put, Dave, it'll be a real COOL day in Ok when I find a better bass than my 33, for what low D's I find, I'll put a tube in the bell [removable in case of Eb's]. I find my glass mp [VG reface, TKS] and C* [now #2] accept most soft reeds and I cant tell any lig differences. Can dream tho [its free] . Don

Well, you are rite there, Bob, BUT, except for this D[ern] tinitus, [been too close to brass and concussion] my hearing is "marginal" and my observations of musical friends with H Aids doesnt impell me toward present technology. So I'm just an old codger needing slightly louder TV and near-front church pews. Of course, re: ligs, I have only 6-8, no recent ones, to choose among, but have selected Luyben, Bonade, and an old "pressure-plate" for Bb, A and C, [my "flute"], and an M Lurie for bass cl for Music Man Reed 4, 3rd time! 'Tis fun, aint it! Don
