 What could be wrong?

It's kind of weird...there are about two notes on my clarinet that sound horrid and the others sound great. The low F below the staff is sounding horridly fuzzy and so is the Eb on last line of the staff.I have no idea why this is happening, and it started fairly recently too. It's not the reed, it's not the ligature, and it's not the mouthpiece or my mouth either...

so what could be causing just those two notes to be fuzzy? I looked at the pads and they look just fine...

I am no expert, but probably the best thing to do is bring it into a reputable repair shop.

I had the same problem with my then new E-11, the pad would slip just a little from the cup but looked to be secure. Using light pressure see if you can move the pads down from the cup, if you can than all you will need is to have the pads cemented in properly and reset. Good Luck

You MAY have a loose screw, or as ron said a pad that slipped

Make sure you aren't pushing any other keys while you are playing, that happens to me sometime and I never realize it!!!!!!!!!

Is your clarinet flat or is there dirt in the tone holes?

An insect's cobweb nest in a tone hole?
Are you sure a pad membrane is not inconspicuously split around the seal circle, so that it vibrates?

It is strange that you are getting this with unrelated notes in each register.

Yes, see a technician. It sounds as if the problem could even be further up the instrument and you have just got used to 'blowing though' it for other notes that are not so affected.

thanks for the help guys, i took it into a repair shop a few days back and will get it today. so i'll see if it's fixed or not.

my teacher said (he only heard of the problem, didn't actually see it on my clarinet) that it was most likely a pad that came a tad loose and since the low F will seal the whole clarinet, the loose pad may cause that loose vibrating buzz. as for the Eb, he said it was probably a pad that had gotten soaked with spit a few months back and now the seal is not fully connecting.

haha, it's not a cobweb - i play my clarinet a lot:)
