i'm a senior in high school
well, my teach is on vacation so im trying to teach myself
what do u think is a good tempo that i should try go get up to in the andante and allegro sections of the weber concertino?
right now im playing the andante section in 4. and i have teh metronome set at 108. is this ok for now? im having a lto of trouble getting it up to tempo. i have an audition coming up in about a month!
I have a lot of trouble tonguing. I also need to get my tongue warmed up or it can't go fast at all. I would have trouble playing sixteenth notes at 100 if my tongue wasnt warmed up. is this problem normal?

Hello Junior,
My teacher gave me a great excercise concerning tongueing and increasing speed. Everyday for my warm up I do my series of long tones, once those are completed, I go on to this excercise. If I were you at the moment I would set it for about 96 for this excercise and increase it whenever you feel that you can do it cleanly.
(These are one octave scales by the way.)
-Starting on low F, play the first 5 notes of the F Major scale (the first 4 as 16ths, the last as a quarter note). (Start on low F, end on middle C)
-Do the same thing again.
-Now play from the open G down 5 notes again (again ending on middle C).
-Do it again.
-Now play the scale all the way from the bottom up and down again (one octave).
Do this for all 12 Major scales, this will warm up your fingers for playing for the day and your tongueing will become faster and more accurate with time.
The last scale you should play will be the F Major again except this time starting on thumb F.
Just to let you know, I've been doing it for about a year...I started at 108 pretty sloppily, and now I can go about 116 cleanly, and 120 for most of the scales cleanly. It really works, and I hope my explaination doesn't confuse you.

Ken, Mark,
In the excellent posting you are referring us to about the Weber op.26, it is mentionned the idea of having a section of Woodwind.org featuring Ken's notes and comments (If I got it correct). Does that section actually exist on Woodwind.org, or has the idea just been abandoned?
