ne1 know a good triple clarinet case
Author: Ben

I'm looking for a triple clarinet case for my Bb/A/Eb. I just received the FEL Orly one and it's nice but it's HUGE! And it has a lot of wasted space inside. There's got to be a better design out there. Anyone know of any places to look?

Try

www.wiseman.com

to view Wiseman's stuff - they will make the inserts for many combinations of instrument - BEWARE - mortgage time - as they are very pricey. I've seen one close up and they are fabulous - every inch is used to good effect.

Also try searching this site for "cases", "double cases", "triple" etc - it's sure to pick up a thread or two to peruse.

Leblanc makes a triple case for about $250.

FYI--

Just checked the wiseman.com site. It looks like it's not quite up and running yet.

That's because it was a bogus URL. The right one is in the Retail section:

If you're surprised by the amount of money people are prepared to charge for a case, have a go at making your own. I've made 2 servicable triple cases. One from a double-sided briefcase (Spartanite) I had to cut slots in the dividing wall for the Bb & A bells, cut foam to fit and line the top. This gave a very useful, day-to-day case with 3 clars. in one side and a useful briefcase as the other half. For touring/hard use, a metal camera case filled with high-density foam keeps them protected but is a bit heavy.
good luck

I was looking for a triple case for the A/Bb/C combination and Wiseman was the onlyest one I found. Very nice but also very pricy. My current solution is a lightweight (relatively) industrial case from Jensen Tools with foam inserts I cut out with an X-acto knife. Wish there were a solution that was more elegant and affordable.

Good Luck!

I've deicided to send back the FEL/Orly for sure. It's just way too big. I look like an art student carrying a canvas. Upon someone's recommendation I checked out the ZERO Halliburton site. They make camera cases, lap-top cases, attaches and luggage. I picked a few that I liked and went to the local luggage store to pick one out. The E5 attache was the most workable because of the deep base but it didn't have the shoulder strap. So I picked the DZ7. It's a lap-top case 13.6"x18.6"x5". It has a gasket where it seals to make sure it's air-tight and doesn't allow any dirt, dust or moisture in. It's made of aircraft aluminum so it's fairly light weight and very protective (not to mention it looks very cool!). I think it will work really well. Like Jez's it'll be a functional briefcase on top-a place for music, reeds and what not. I'm going to make the insert first before I buy the case to be sure that everything fits. I sketched it out already but who knows. Any suggestions for a fabric lining for the foam? The case is brushed aluminum and looks very chic so I'm not sure what to use to complement it (I know...I'm very fussy). I'll let you know how it goes and I'll post some pics when I'm done. Hopefully by the end of the weekend.

Ben, Please be aware that because Haliburton makes such fine stuff to keep your fine stuff safe they are an ideal 'grab-and-run' item in airports, public areas etc. As they say, "Be alert--the World needs lerts." Check on a courier-type wrist-strap for it if you travel much. It's the cheapest insurance you can buy because you will always be aware of its situation. And if you check it in at airports be sure you get a BUNCH of insurance and read the fine print.

That's good advice, Bob. I'll definitely consider that and be aware. I'm pretty good at always keeping my clarinet with me when it's not at home. I don't even leave it in my locker at school. But once I did leave it at Denny's...I put it under the table while I was studying then forgot about it. It was hours later. But as soon as I started out to my car I remembered and then went back and got it. Thanks again.
