Can anyone please tell me the difference between Yamaha YCL-26, a YCL-24, and a YCL-20 model? TIA

I have been wondering this as well.

I noticed that some of Yamaha's also have the "II" designation as well. For example, YCL-26II, YCL-34II.

The web page referred to by Diz was not much help.

Yes - but it does have contact information - didn't think I needed to spell that out.

Carol, explore the site a bit. Like - hit the Yamaha button, worldwide directory, and then figure out where you'd like to look up. Telephone numbers & addresses are right there.

Don't be afraid of exploring on the Web. You can always get off the highway and come back to where you were.

I call the players/salespeople at WW&BW. With minor exceptions they have been very helpful, even when I asked about stuff they don't sell. I was considering mpcs.... I was steered away from the high-priced models and was told to try a John Pierce (for jazz) at $55.00. She was right.

My clarinet is a Yamaha YCL26 II MS UK.

So far as I can work out, that translates as:
Y for Yamaha
CL for clarinet
26 is the model number
II means it's Mark 2
M for matt finish plastic
S for silver-plated keys
UK for United Kingdom

I have vaguely heard of the YCL24 and YCL20, but I don't think they are sold in England. I wonder whether they may be models made (or at least assembled) in the USA for the US market. Despite the UK designation, I think my clarinet is entirely made in Japan.

That is my understanding of it too, unless 24 or 20 were predecescors of 26.

The YCL 20 is sold in the U.S. I have a YCL 26 purchased in Great Britain. I have not been able to find the 26 in music stores in the U.S. The 26 has an adjustable thumb rest and is silver plated. I believe the 20 only comes nickel plated with a stationary thumbrest.

The 26 in my catalogue, and the many that have come here from Japan, have fixed thumb rest and nickel plated keys, straight tone holes with tpered undercut, ABS body.

My YCL26, like Martin's, has silver-plated keywork and an adjustable thumbrest. I can't comment knowledgeably on the toneholes; to my untutored eye, they are just holes. (I know what undercut means, I think, but can't recognise it in practice.)
