I'm preparing for my upper divisional jury exam and have been having trouble finding biographical information on Paul Jeanjean. I will be perfroming his piece Carnival of Venice, and would appreciate any help finding resources on the composer and/or the piece as I have already exhausted all of the college's resources. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Karl...There is a long article on Paul Jeanjean (by Timothy Perry) in "The Clarinet" (The ICA magazine) Volume 27 Number 4 - September 2000 ...GBK

Karl, You can use one of many search engines on the computer like:
Google.com or maybe Yahoo.com. These sites really helped me.
Good Luck,
Miles

Its hard to imagine that any college wouldn't have the resources to enable you to do a rather basic piece of research. I hope you have spoken to a librarian, whomever teaches the music history course, your major professor, and so on. I assume you have checked Groves. (If your school doesn't have Groves, consider transfering.) Surely inter-library loan is do-able if your library lacks the source.

The internet is a fantastic source, (wish I had it 30 years ago when I was in school) but it can't begin to replace the assistance of knowledgeable professionals (whom you are paying with your tuition bills!) And... believe it or not, some material just hasn't made it to the web from the printed page!

Jim E...Very well said.

I think you should copy and paste your posting and add it to the "Tartini / Weber" thread (7 topics above this one)...GBK

Jean jean was a crazy person who wrote a pile of music...other than that my students are driven crazy by his stuff. Check the Clarinet for further details....
