 old plastic vs R13

Today just for the heck of it I got out my old Yamaha plastic and played it immediately after playing my R13. Guess what, I couldn't tell any difference in the sound. I must say that I used the same 5RVLyre and reed on both...and I had to put some plumbers teflon tape on the mouthpiece to make it fit. I have tentatively concluded that the mouthpiece is a bigger factor than the horn.
