I've seen them, read about them, but never played this instrument. Do any of you own one or played one? What was your specific experience and evaluation of this instrument?

I tried a few a couple years ago. The biggest thing i remember is the smell they had. They smell really weird, like an anoying dust that never goes away. There are some really weird mechanisms on it might i add. It make's it really hard to just play and the sound is really weak. Definately not a go for me, God bless the R13

Well James, an interesting post. When I tried a pair of Elites the only stink seemed to be emanating from me, not the instruments.
Seriously, I spent a day trying them and found that pair to be excellent clarinets, not hard to play at all: The resistance and evenness of sound over the range felt/sounded good. They definitely had a more even scale than my R13s of the time. The sound seemed a bit less direct than the R13s, probably closer to the RC model.
The "weird mechanism" mentioned was most likely a vent key to raise the pitch of the low f. The instruments I played had standard keywork.
The weight of the instrument is reduced because of the thinner bore walls. The lighter weight constuction makes them more prone to damage, which for me is the only "big negative" with the Elites.
