16, # of years depends on the study (10th grade, 5th year in band.), have participated in Honorary bands since 7th grade and played 5 instruments for the band at different times. I've played almost every type of high-school band arrangement that my band director can think of and our band is working on European professional-level music. (With clarinet parts in C and tubas in Eb and such.)

To David:
Are you playing Symphony No. 1: Lord of the Rings? My college wind ensemble did that and it was spectacular!

14, played 4 years, 9th grade in school, honor band since 6th grade, play 5 instruments currently, was in all state this year, got superior command at our solo/ensamble competition last year, principle chair in honor band since 7th, um, I can't say much about our band, and saying I'm principle in there isn't saying much. I wish we were playing higher level music like David. We pulled out Molly on the Shore and First Suite in Eb by Holst, but very few pieces at that lever or higher.

What is the point of this information gathering?

diz, we are all like ducks on a pond. We know what our pond is like, and we may be the best duck around. But there is that nagging question about what is going on at other ponds, and where we would rate if we were there instead.
Good analogy, I think. And from what I've gathered, some of us are odd ducks indeed . . .

16, 11th grade, going into eight years of study, District band one year, district orchestra, honors all state this year, Concerto Competition winner with youth orchestra (protege philharmonic of chicago). I must say being a young musician is fun, it kinda scares me to look at the coming post-graduate degree days of being a free lancer

Yay Nabucco! A fun piece of music to play-I just did that as part of our university Concert Band's all-Italian program.

I think the point of this is to show that there are young people taking the clarinet seriously and i will ad to it.
Im 17, im a junior right now. I'm assistant principal, and bass clarinetist for the chicago youth symphony orchestra. I have been principal of the IMEA District twice, and i was assistant principal my freshman year and this year i was in the Honors orchestra for IL.

I just turned 15, 8th grade ( I know, I know) I play the clarinet for about 1 1/2. I'm the best player in my middle school band (what a boring band!!) The best in the high school band, and just joined a college band (where my band teacher, my clarinet teacher and her teacher play). Well, I'm not in honors band yet, because I got to be in high school to join it. I, right now play all woodwinds, except the basoon ( clarinet, sax, fute, piccolo, oboe. Does recorder count??)

HI!!! I'm 14, going on four years playing clarinet, I'm in eighth grade and...I just got a brand new R-13!
I've been in honors and district band the past two years, third chair clarinet in district this year, and I'm second chair in our local youth orchestra
most interestering thing I've played? well the rose etudes are kinda amusing...
I also play the bassoon, which I've gone to honors and district band on as well, and a little bit of saxophone.

Seems that I am the oldest thus far.. an 18 year old senior. I play soprano, alto, and bass. Soprano in marching and jazz band at school, and a community marching band, bass in concert band at school, and alto at a community concert band.
No time for honor bands, etc.. If i'm not at an above mentioned practice I'm usually working on a show of some sort.
Aside from the HS concert band arrangements I'm currently working on Light Cavalry by von Suppe and the Blue and the Gray, spent some time on the Festive Overture, various marches, worked on the Barber of Seville last year.. I don't remember much else. Currently a nominee for the J.P. Sousa award through my community band.
I play a few other things, but clarinet is defintely the top priority.
-shameless plug - i'm sorry.
And if anyone in the South Jersey area is interested in some fine music including concert, marching, and dance band pieces this Saturday evening (the 13th) feel free to email me and inquire. =)

I'm 15 years old and in 10th grade. I've been playing clarinet since fourth grade. I'm the Principal Clarinetist/Bass Clarinetist/English Horn player of the Metropolis Youth Symphony(Illinois Council of Orchestras Youth Orchestra of the Year), 1st chair oboe of my High School Symphonic Band(1st chair clarinet freshmen year), and I've played oboe in the All Catholic School Band "Gathering" @ DePaul University.
I have yet to go out for IMEA/All-District and beyond on clarinet because of time issues, but I am definitely auditioning this upcoming year.

14 years old, and in 9th grade. I've been playing clarinet for about six years, saxaphone for two, and guitar for eight. I study classical and jazz clarinet at the Manhattan School of Music prep division and I've been in all-county bands for the past two years. Oh, and the seniors in my school band are constantly yelling at me for being able to play the music while they can't. Heh.
I'm playing the Telemann sonata in C minor for NYSSMA. I like playing jazz more than playing classical music, for various reasons...I'm in a jazz combo/improvisation class at MSM, and I play bari sax in my school jazz band, which is an interesting experience since I'm barely over five feet...but it rocks.

Kim:
Yes, we looked at that, and we had our major stumbles. Now we're trying "Loch Ness", which I think is by the same artist. It's a blast!! "Lord of The Rings" is on the agenda for next year. (We thought about making it a marching band show if we could.)
As for those wishing their bands played higher-level music: It's a trade-off. You'll be VERY frustrated with your band director and he'll be frustrated with you, but once you pass that barrier, it's the best experience you'll ever have. Honor bands are very rewarding in that respect that everyone there is willing to push. (when the guest director doesn't under-appraise your ability and give you grade 3 music instead of grade 6! lol.)

I'm 17, 11th grade. I'm attempting to prepare myself simultaneously for applying to competitive colleges and conservatories (it doesn't quite work). I'm playing the Debussy Premiere Rhapsodie for NYSSMA and I played the Copland Concerto last fall. I was principal clarinet in All-County Orchestra and I'm also first chair violinist in my school orchestra. I hate playing in bands and avoid them whenever possible (I have played exclusively in orchestras since July).
And I'm going to probably be auditioning with all you juniors in less than a year. Eek. I have to go practice now.

I am 15 and I am currently ranked 6th in the state of texas as a sophmore. I made all-state as a freshman which is very hard considering only one other person in the state did that year. That says a lot considering there are thousands of high school clarinet players in texas.
