Hi Everyone!
I was doing a Google search on John Barnes Chance's Incantation and Dance the other day and came across some pretty decent mp3's of some pretty decent performances. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get a professionally made cd of this and other concert band pieces.
By the way does anyone remember playing Incantation and Dance in high school or college? I remember how much fun it was and it has some great clarinet/bass clarinet parts in it!

Just played it last semester in school. That is a great bass clarinet part...probably the best part of all instruments in the piece.

Played it for the first time last spring. It's a great piece. I do not know of any professonal recordings of Incantation & Dance, but I have been pleasantly suprised by the number of great recordings the various Military Bands (Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine) have available. Might try checking some of those sites.

I believe Tokyo Kosei has a recording of it somewhere...
It's an AWESOME piece. I played 1st bassoon on it at Regional Band in high school...one of my favorite band pieces EVER written. The low brass part in the first section still gives me goosebumps.

I played this piece (on bass clarinet) in Junior High School, a few centuries ago, and I've NEVER forgotten it! Not only does it have one of the best bass clarinet parts in the band literature, but as a whole it was a rather difficult piece for musicians as young as we were (Junior High, an outmoded concept in most places nowadays, then comprised U.S. grades 7 through 9, that is, kids aged about 13-15 years old). I remember my best friend at the time, who was a couple of years older and was a BIG kid (that is, he was in high school, a year ahead of me), came to our little Junior High concert because he couldn't believe we were attempting such a difficult piece, and he (also a bass clarinetist) was sure I'd fall flat on my face playing it! We showed 'im!

Walking Frog Records, http://www.walkingfrog.com/ has practically every concert band record ever made. For a standard repertoire item like Incantation and Dance, they're bound to have at least one recording, and probably several. Unfortunately, their catalog is not on line, but they'll send it for the asking.
