BUFFET PRESTIGE BASS--?????

I've been e-mailing Boosey and Hawks Buffet people for about a month now and have not recieved any response. My question is, has the Buffet Prestige bass clarinet model 1193 (low C) undergone any recent accoustical or manufacturing improvements? I was told that the ones being currently offered for sale by so many people on eBay are the "old ones" and that the ones being currently stocked in stores are the new models (1193-2). Does anyone have any info to offer??????

Hmm, that is a good question. Have you tried Lisa Argiris at International music suppliers in Des Plaines. She seems to have the inside track on what is going on. I bought my Prestige from them in 1997. I wonder what in the world they might be doing, it is a wonderful instrument.

There have been many changed to the 1193/83 from about the last 5 or 6 years. I have also played both models, before and (the horn that I own now) the newly designed 1193.
The biggest change has been the design of the bell and the placement of the Low C on the on bell and addition of a vent on the bell for the low C. It is amazing the difference between the 2 horns. The other changes were mainly to the lower joint. Instead of haveing a lever action to enguage the pads of the lower joint, there is now a direct connection(more like a regular Bb clairnet) for the movement of the pads of the lower joint.
Other changed have only made the horn better. I bought mine through Pam Muncy of Muncy Woodwinds. If you need the number, just give me an e-mail. I tried an old model, a used horn that she had, and 2 new model horns that they had just gotten from the factory. There is really no camparison between the two horns. The new model's improvments have greatly improved all the problems with the old model.
Good luck. Give Pam Muncy or Lisa at IMS, they both know what's going on with the horns, and they're both wonderful to work with.
