 Muncy Winds?
Author: Simon

Hello All.
I've recently started going around calling about prices for the R-13 A clarinet. It turns out that Muncy Winds is a bit cheaper than WWandBW, which is where I usually go. Have any of you ever bought an instrument from Muncy Winds? Did they have good service?
Is there an other store I should call that would offer new and quality R-13A's at a good price?

Thanks for your help!

Simon,

I have not bought an instrument from Muncy Winds. I usually buy reeds and other clarinet supplies. I also bought a clarinet case cover from them. The service is good, I have not had any problems with them.

Although I have only bought accessories from them, I know others who have bought instruments from them. I have never heard of anything negative about them. Only very positive feedback.

Muncy winds is wonderful, and their customer service is good. I've purchased many accessories from them, and I recently purchased a pro oboe from them, as well. The owner is a pro clarinetist and is great to talk to, but don't expect him to be on the phone often because of larger duties with the company. They recently acquired the Olivieri Reed Company and are producing a new, hand-polished pro clarinet reed (which I've purchased and not tried, yet) and a new, very nice artist oboe reed. They keep their stock of reeds in a humidity-controlled room. Some college music departments deal with them. I've been impressed.

I just bought a Prestige R-13 Bb from them last week and the customer service was great. They will shop check and play the instruments before they send it out to you to make sure that they play and sound good. You're guarenteed to get a high quality instrument!

I believe Muncy Winds is a good place to get your clarinets...now I have never gotten clarinets there..so I'm still not that sure. I think International Music Suppliers is really good. The owner is a clarinetist, she can play them before she sends them and you can choose between clarinets also....etc...etc... I hope that I have made myself clear. :)

Good Luck!!!

Mindy

I have been buying from Muncy winds for the last 4 years and they have been a most wonderful company to deal with. I have bought everything from them, from clarient swabs, to a Buffet Low C Prestige Bass Clarient. Pam Muncy and the rest of the staff are wonderful to work with and talk to. It's to the point where Pam basically knows my address before she even looks at the computer.
I trust them enough that I have bid out a few instruments for my university, including a Buffet Prestige Eb clarinet.
They have all been the best people to deal with and I have no complaints. I reccommend many other people to them only because I can count the Muncy's to do a great job.
Once I orderd a Buffet Caddash barrell from them. When It arived I was displeased about the quality of the barrell. It was grainy and extremely rough in the bore. I called them and they were understanding, and sent out a new barrell the next day. the second barrell was a perfect pick. They at least were willing to work with me, and hhave always been that way.
No company will ever be without any problems, but I have had my best dealing with them. Service and wuality have been well above the rest.
They are all a good bunch. Give them a try.

I've bought an R13 and a Selmer Alto sax from them. The R13 needed a warranty repair. No problems at all, great service, nice to deal with!

Oh, yes, they did shop-test my oboe first. I've been considering purchasing a Patricola clarinet from them. I have been looking for the Gem silk swabs for years, and I found them at Muncy winds. Pam and Phil are the owners, by the way, and both are very knowledgeable.

Pam and Phil (married) are the owners, by the way, and both are very knowledgeable. Just to add this, Phil plays a custom Buffet, his own design mouthpiece and uses his personally crafted reeds and ligatures, as well. Many of his designs have been prototypes of manufactured designs.
