I need some suggestions for a new mouthpiece. I play somthing of everything, but am looking for a MP for traditional jazz. I DO NOT want anything too bright!! I want somthing that is full bodied yet not too dark. I play solo when gigging so I don't have to worry about cutting through alot of instrumentation.
Thanks

Doesn't matter what kind of music you wish to play... go to a music store/repair shop, try different ones until you find the mouthpiece/reed combination that suits You.

VanDoren B-45 might be what yhou are looking for--try a few and pick the one that works best for you. Personally, when I play orchestral and wind ensemble gigs, I use a Chicago Kaspar #14 or a Gregory Smith Kaspar model #11 with reeds that I adapt for both. When I switch to jazz, I use a LeBlanc "Educator" mpc that was completely re-done (facing and chamber) by my former college clarinet teacher, Glenn Bowen (also with reeds that I adapt for that particular mpc). Hope this helps a bit--you will probably get lots of other suggestions as we all have our favs when it comes to mpcs.

Of course Ron B is correct in trying as many out as possible, but I live in a rather remote area without any fully stocked music stores, so much of my trying out will be on approval basis from businesses that will work with me on this. I know that some do like WW&BW for example. I just want to get a feel for what has worked for others and what I should probably avoid.
Thanks

I've had some pretty good success at repair shops. They usually have a box of 'old' ones you can rumage through and I've always been able to find a couple or more serviceable ones in the lot. I'm often amazed at the variety too And the price is always right.
It might be worth your while to look into that unless you're definitely set on a new one. Who knows? You may hit the winning bargain-basement combo right there - Bingo!

Ron B:
I went over to my repairman's shop today on another matter, and lo and behold he had an old Morgan sitting around. He said I could take it and try it out. It's just what I've been looking for. Good suggestion. Thanks!
I know I have an excellant MP, but I'm an old Sax player and I just know the chase for the perfect MP must continue. Believe me with all the money I've invested in MP's over the years on saxes and now clarinet the piano is much cheaper!!
