put your ligature on. Slide your reed between the mp and lig. have the tip of the reed even with the tip of your mp. and then tighten your ligature.

Thats about it....

This is the imposter again. Probably proving he hasn't been banned.

I agree with Mark C about identity stealing.

Everybody---I recommend that we note this person's email address. If he posts another note under any name, ignore it and do not respond.

Oh yes. Because of Mark C's comments and to avoid possible confusion, I am now going to be known as RogerM. In that way no one will confuse me with "the other Roger." To the other Roger---I apologize (this has been going on for a few years) for causing possible confusion.

He/she can fake the email address as well, which I believe he/she did. The item to look at is the IP address -- the item in parentheses after the poster's name.

Mark: I am currently having an identity problem with an eBay seller and it is quite disconcerting to say the least. This hacker who is using "doc's" name is a pain in the xxx. Perhaps the solution to this problem...which might also help your financial problem...is to only allow "paying" members to use your website.

No, Bob, that won't happen. A lot of musicians I know are struggling to make ends meet and can't really afford to contribute. I've survived on Worchestershire and rice for a week ... I know what being poor is like.

Let's put a strong reed, a tight ligature, and cap on this guy...

"How do you put on a reed?" Like the other "team" of clarinetists--one "lig" at a time.
(OK--stop throwing those broken reeds at me--I'm outta here!!!)

Good Clarineting!!!!!

Hopefully this time it'll be harder for our "imposter" to post ...

Lots of reaction to the imposter, but very little to Mindy's reply. Do you really all put on the ligature, then slide in the reed? I always put the reed in place then maneuver the ligature around it, being careful not to touch the tip of the reed, finally tightening the ligature.

Eoin - if it holds the reed in place - then it matters not the order in which the read or lig. are inserted, really. I also find I swap the "screwy" part of the lig. between the front and back of my mouthpiece - don't ask me why, though.

Wind the shoestring around the reed, tie it off, adjust from there.

I find this an interesting topic.
I mean do you always place the reed at the exact same position?
I don't. I put softer slight higher than hard ones I also don't always put it in "straight" if the reed is a bit unbalanced and I am too lazy to balance it.
I also sometimes "bend" a reed closer to the mouthpiece if it's a bit hard.

Do you guys do the smae kind of tweaking?

My clarinet teacher was always moving the reed around to get better tone, but I could never figure out exactly what he was doing.

I bthought the tip of the reed should not quite reach the tip of the MP--there should be a slight sliver of mouthpiece above the reed. Is that not correct?

Actually it should be the other way around - a sliver of reed abouve the tip of the mouthpiece. That way when the reed bends towards the tip it will completely seal.
